8. Family Court Building
Niagara Street at Franklin
One of the newest buildings downtown, the $34.5 million dollar project was completed in 2001 by Foit-Albert Associates of Buffalo. The building houses Family Court and the Erie County Department of Probation. Note the difficult trapezoidal site: a result of Buffalo’s radial street plan, which dictated the design. The building stands seven stories tall, with granite facing on the first two floors and pressed concrete above. Elegant metalwork graces the entranceway. Note the reference to historical Art Deco style in the tower closest to Pearl Street. Dignified and complimentary to its neighbors and to Buffalo’s special street plan, the Family Court Building is a welcome addition to the streetscape.
